Dacotah Prairie Museum Foundation Scholarship Supports Brown County Students

The Dacotah Prairie Museum Foundation (DPMF) is investing in the future of local students through its scholarship endowment, now in its fourth year, designed to support Brown County scholars as they pursue higher education in South Dakota.

The scholarship is open to all Brown County, S.D. students — either residents of the county or those attending a school or homeschool program within the county — who plan to enroll in an accredited technical school, two-year college, or four-year university in South Dakota.

“We are pleased to announce the availability of scholarships for Brown County students through the DPMF Scholarship Endowment,” said Museum Director Patricia Kendall. “This scholarship presents a wonderful opportunity to expand educational resources available for a new generation of scholars from our county. It also encourages young people to look at staying in South Dakota for their continuing education and perhaps coming back to Brown County to establish a future here.”

Scholarship Details

The DPMF Scholarship is intended to recognize students who are connected to their community and thinking intentionally about their futures. Applicants will be considered based on the following criteria:

  • Residency in Brown County or attendance at a Brown County school/homeschool
  • Submission of a current academic transcript
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Completion of essay questions addressing community involvement, connection to Brown County, and future plans

Applications are due March 1, and scholarship recipients will be announced by May 1.

Each award will be $1,000 and will be sent directly to the student’s chosen post-secondary institution upon confirmation of full-time enrollment, verified through an official letter or class schedule.

Recipients will be selected by the Dacotah Prairie Museum Foundation Scholarship Committee, made up of museum board members and museum staff.

Help Spread the Word

The Dacotah Prairie Museum Foundation encourages families, educators, and community members to share this opportunity widely so eligible students don’t miss out. Support from local organizations and individuals plays an important role in helping young people take the next step in their education.
