Coming Soon, Spark! Places of Innovation

The Dacotah Prairie Museum is hosting the Smithsonian Institution’s traveling exhibit, Spark! Places of Innovation, Oct. 12, 2024 through Jan. 11, 2025.

Spark! Places of Innovation features stories from over 30 rural communities across the nation that reveal the dynamic relationship between place and creativity. For every community, there is a unique combination of history, resources, leadership, collaboration, and opportunity that resulted in invention and innovation.

Spark! Places of Innovation will feature additional exhibits by the DPM to highlight a Brown County town of innovation and creativity, Groton, SD. Exhibit will include never-before seen prints from 1895 glass negatives of downtown Groton, video and photo media representing a year in the life of the people of Groton, and a student idea contest expressing their vision of Groton of the future.

Spark! Places of Innovation has been made possible at the Dacotah Prairie Museum by the South Dakota Humanities Council.

Spark! Places of Innovation is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and the South Dakota Humanities Council. Support for Museum on Main Street has been provided by the United States Congress.

Who should see it and why? – If you live in small town America and care about your community this is for you, and hopefully it will inspire and inform you to create innovation in your own world.
