Dacotah Prairie Museum Foundation, an independent nonprofit corporation that supports the Dacotah Prairie Museum, owns the collection and operates The Mercantile gift shop.
“The Board of Directors shall have general power to control and manage the affairs and property of the corporation, and shall have full power, by majority vote, to adopt rules and regulations governing the actions of the Board of Directors and shall have full authority with respect to the distribution and payment of monies received by the corporation. The ownership of the collection of the Dacotah Prairie Museum shall vest in the Dacotah Prairie Museum Foundation, Incorporated.” – Bylaws of the Dacotah Prairie Museum Foundation, Inc.

“The purpose of the Board of Trustees shall be to discover, preserve, and disseminate knowledge about the history of Brown County and South Dakota through operation of the Dacotah Prairie Museum, hereinafter referred to as the “Museum”.
