Artists of the Prairie

“Artists of the Prairie” is an art collaboration that celebrates art and artists of the prairie, nurtures our prairie culture, promotes creativity, engages people in meaningful art experiences, and provides a venue for established and emerging artists to show their work. This group exhibition, to be displayed biennially in the Lamont Gallery at the Dacotah Prairie Museum of Aberdeen, SD, is open to participants who are current and past residents of South Dakota, North Dakota, and Minnesota.

We are seeking a variety of 2D and 3D entries, representative of diverse perspectives and artistic interpretations of the theme “The Natural World”. Due to gallery space, the show is limited to submission of one work per artist. All artwork must be original, ready to display, and must meet eligibility guidelines. Participation in the show is determined through an application process which includes a submitted digital image of the completed work.

In 2021, 35 artists participated in the show, and in 2023 the works of 55 local and regional artists were featured, representing multiple backgrounds and age groups, from young adults to retired individuals. This show has been very well-received in the community and participants have expressed positive feedback each time. Let’s keep the momentum going! Local and regional artists are encouraged to apply in 2025! There is no participation fee. A commission is charged on purchases of artworks listed for sale during the exhibition with Dacotah Prairie Museum Foundation acting an agent.
